What types of services are offered through the Scott County Health Department HIV Testing Program?
The HIV Antibody Testing Program includes private HIV counseling and testing for all Iowa residents.
When can I get an HIV Test done at the Health Department?
Call 563-326-8618 to make an appointment at our sexual health clinic. Appointments are available:
If you need an appointment for HIV testing outside of regular clinic hours or to talk to an HIV counselor, call or text 563-459-9014.
How long after a test is done does it take to get results back?
It takes 20 minutes.
What happens if my test is positive?
If your HIV test is reactive (positive), a second test will be done to confirm your results. Counseling, referrals to treatment, and partner notification services are available. With proper treatment, HIV is now considered a chronic, manageable health condition similar to diabetes. People living with HIV receiving medical care can live long, active lives. Early testing and treatment results in better health and greatly lowers the risk of passing HIV to others.
Have you heard of PrEP?
Along with consistent, correct use of latex condoms, there is now another option to prevent HIV infection. PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is medication, taken once daily, that offers protection from HIV. If you have medical insurance, PrEP may or may not be covered, but there are payment assistance programs available. For more information about access to PrEP in Iowa, visit www.prepiowa.org.
