COVID-19 Information

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a very contagious disease that most often causes respiratory symptoms similar to a cold, flu, or pneumonia. It is spread through droplets or particles that an infected person breathes out. 

Protect yourself by getting vaccinated, washing your hands often, staying home if you develop symptoms of illness, and getting tested if you believe you may have COVID-19.

Testing

Below is a list of testing opportunities in Scott County. **This list may not be exclusive and testing resources and requirements may change day to day.**

  • TestIowa At Home Test Kits
    • Any Iowa resident can test
    • Request or find a local kit at www.testiowa.com
    • Test kits can be picked up at:
      • Scott County Health Department (pick-up ONLY) between 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
      • Center for Active Seniors Inc. (pick-up ONLY)
      • OR individuals can request test kits be sent directly to their home by going to www.testiowa.com
    • Test kits can be dropped off at:
      • UPS drop off locations/drop boxes ONLY

Vaccines

COVID-19 Vaccine Information

  • COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free! Everyone 6 months and older should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Find more information about the types of vaccines available on the CDC's website: https://www.cdc.gov/covid/vaccines/stay-up-to-date.html
  • Scott County Health Department ONLY offers COVID-19 vaccines through the Bridge Access Program (BAP) and Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program.
  • Please call the Health Department at 563-326-8618 between 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to schedule an appointment.
  • If you do not meet eligibility requirements for the BAP or VFC programs, visit vaccines.gov to find a location near you!

Bridge Access Program

  • The following individuals qualify: Individuals 19 years of age or older with no insurance or whose insurance does not cover vaccines.
  • BAP vaccine availability is limited at this time. We offer same-day appointments Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Walk-ins are accommodated during business hours based on staff and vaccine availability.

Vaccines for Children Program

  • COVID-19 vaccines are available for children through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. Children 6 months-18 years of age are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines through the VFC program if they meet one of the following critera:
    • Medicaid-eligible
    • American Indian/Alaskan Native
    • Uninsured
    • Underinsured (defined as a child with health insurance, but the benefit plan does not include routine immunizations)
  • Our office currently has COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months-18 years old and eligible for the VFC program. 
  • We offer same-day appointments Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and pre-scheduled appointments for the immunization clinic on Wednesdays from 8:15 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
