August 1 – 7, 2024 is World Breastfeeding Week. It is an annual global campaign to raise awareness and support for breast/chest feeding. According to the World Health Organization (2024), this year’s theme is focused on celebrating the diversity of breast/chest feeding parents and showcasing the many ways that support can be offered by all. Just some ways to show support include:

  • Welcoming nursing families in public spaces
  • Offering time and space in the workplace for lactation
  • Having strong parental leave policies and paid time off for when parents return to work
  • Ensuring that all parents have access to trained health professionals for lactation education and support

SCHD offers breast/chest feeding education and support by Certified Lactation Specialists. Individual and group classes are available. To learn more, visit the SCHD Healthy Pregnancy (Maternal Health) page or call 563-328-4114.
