On Thursday, April 20, 2017, Scott County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Joe Caffery and Deputy Dan Grafton will be recipients of the Life Saving Award.
On February 13, 2017 Lieutenant Caffery and Deputy Grafton responded to a call for service in regards to an unresponsive female in Park View, Iowa. Lieutenant Caffery and Deputy Grafton arrived on scene, analyzed the situation and took immediate action to patient care. It was through Lieutenant Caffery’s and Deputy Grafton’s training that they were able to make the scene safe, apply the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and administer first responder care to the unresponsive victim. Lieutenant Caffery and Deputy Grafton conducted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the victim until fire and medical personnel arrived. Upon arrival, EMS professionals continued CPR and the victim was transported to the ambulance. An EMS responder exited the ambulance and stated that the victim was alert and conscious because of Lieutenant Caffery’s and Deputy Grafton’s actions. The actions of all involved reflect great teamwork, credit upon themselves, their community, and their agencies.
