Job Title: Corrections Food Service Officer

Under general supervision, the Corrections Food Service Officer oversees and participates in the preparation of nutritionally balanced meals in accordance with safety and sanitary procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides training and instruction to inmates in meal production, safe food handling, and kitchen sanitation; supervises and implements corrective and disciplinary actions to ensure task are being performed appropriately and safely.
Oversees tray, snack, and menu meal production and transport; manages special diet configuration; verifies daily inventory by tracking items on daily menus.
Uses system computer to review and update special diet orders; prints snack and diet labels.
Tracks inmate movement, changes, and updates within the jail using the Offender Management System (OMS).
Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) years of experience in large scale food service or preparation; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
Sanitary food preparation practices and standards.
Supervisory principles and practices.
Food service and safety standards, regulations, and procedures.
Kitchen tools, equipment, machinery, and cleaning chemicals.
Skill in:
Preparing and cooking balanced meals that meet dietary guidelines and requirements.
Providing effective supervision and direction to inmate workers.
Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, inmates, and outside agencies.
Managing and controlling food costs and inventory to meet budget guidelines.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a Basic Jail Training certificate or obtain certification within one (1) year of hire.
Must possess a ServSafe certification or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in correctional kitchen and food preparation areas and requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures; dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery; hazardous chemicals and potentially violent inmates.
May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
