Job Summary

Under basic supervision, the Grounds Maintenance Worker maintains lawns, sidewalks, landscapes, and parking areas at County properties by cleaning up of debris, cutting and watering grass, trimming shrubs and trees, and maintaining flowers and planting beds.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Collects trash from grounds; removes weeds, trims and mows grass, and picks up leaves; performs other landscaping projects.

Operates County vehicles, snow plows, lawn equipment, skid steer, fork lift and other motor- driven equipment.

Responsible for snow removal and salting on all County owned parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways. Responds to snow call-ins as may be necessary.

Coordinates the maintenance of the County carpool with Fleet Division.

Completes general preventative maintenance and basic repairs on equipment and vehicles.

Performs warehouse tasks to include conducting inventory counts, receiving and verifying delivery of products to the warehouse; cleans and organizes maintenance shops and warehouse.

Responsible for transporting records and supplies to and from various locations.

Assists maintenance staff with other tasks such as changing ballasts, cutting keys, and similar duties.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year of previous maintenance or grounds keeping experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Grounds maintenance tools, materials, and equipment.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Proper use of various hand and power tools and vehicles, including those equipped with snow plow, forklift, snow blower, and salt spreader

Grounds maintenance methods.

Skill in:
Operating a variety of hand and power tools safely.

Maintaining accurate supply inventory counts.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid Driver's license.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at various County Facilities, including detention facilities, with inmates present.
May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, potential physical harm from inmates, hazardous chemicals, electric shock and infectious diseases
Required to climb ladders, operate aerial lifts, work in confined spaces and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Incumbent may be required to be available or "on-call" during off-duty hours.
