STAFF EMT

MEDIC EMS staff EMTs are the boots on the ground force for patient care and ambulance calls. EMTs must have unimpaired mobility including the ability to climb stairs, access patients in difficult terrain, and carry equipment and patients weighing up to 225 lbs with a partner. Must be able to perform required medical skills, have correctable vision for both day and night operation, hear and understand information, and speak clearly at an audible level to others in loud conditions.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current valid Iowa Class D driver’s license or equivalent from a current state of residence, a current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification, a current valid Iowa EMT certification, and a current valid Illinois EMT licensure.

STAFF PARAMEDIC

Staff paramedics work alongside EMTs to render patient care in a professional and timely manner as directed by a level of certification, medical protocols, the Medical Director, and Medical Control. Paramedics must have unimpaired mobility including the ability to climb stairs, access patients in difficult terrain, and carry equipment and patients weighing up to 225 lbs with a partner. Must be able to perform required medical skills, have correctable vision for both day and night operation, hear and understand information, and speak clearly at an audible level to others in loud conditions.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current valid Iowa Class D driver’s license or equivalent from a current state of residence, a current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification, a current valid ACLS certification, a current valid Iowa Paramedic certification, and a current valid Illinois Paramedic licensure.

STAFF CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC

Staff Critical Care Paramedics must meet all requirements of a Staff Paramedic. In addition to the base requirements, Critical Care Paramedics are required to successfully complete identified education and practical skill core competencies as determined by the Medical Director. The candidate must also be a seasoned Paramedic and have the ability to operate in a high-stress clinical environment.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current Iowa Critical Care Paramedic endorsement and a minimum of two years of experience as a Paramedic in an ALS system within the last five years.

SYSTEM STATUS CONTROLLER

MEDIC EMS System Status Controllers answer all assigned incoming calls and dispatch ambulance and transportation crews when and where appropriate. The SSC also holds responsibility for gathering patient information and monitoring the positions of ambulances, as well as duties in billing assignments. Physical requirements for this position include the ability to sit, talk and hear for long periods of time, as well as operate basic office equipment. The employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance, and lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to adjust vision focus, possess close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification, must obtain and maintain valid current Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within 45 days of employment, and is required to successfully complete and obtain in a designated time period the State of Iowa Telecommunication Training Course.

TRANSFER COORDINATOR/BILLING SPECIALIST

The primary duties of a MEDIC EMS Transfer Coordinator/Billing Specialist include pre-billing and billing of charts for reimbursement, and dispatching/answering radio traffic for the courier.  Physical requirements for this position include the ability to sit, talk and hear for long periods of time, as well as operate basic office equipment. The employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance, and lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to adjust vision focus, possess close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification, must obtain and maintain valid current Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within 45 days of employment, and the applicant is required to successfully complete and obtain the State of Iowa Telecommunication Training Course within one year of employment.

VEHICLE SAFETY TECHNICIAN/COURIER

MEDIC EMS cares about accomplishing tasks and sending messages as quickly as possible. This position is responsible for responding to all calls for courier service in a safe and timely manner, and to otherwise act as the Vehicle Safety Technician. This role includes ensuring that all vehicles meet the criteria for street duty. Physical requirements for this position include the ability to sit, talk and hear for long periods of time, as well as operate basic office equipment. The employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance, and lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to adjust vision focus, possess close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the possession of a current valid Iowa or Illinois chauffeur driver’s license, as well as possession of a current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification.

ALTERNATE DELIVERY MODEL (ADM) STAFF

All across the nation, many smaller communities face the challenge of providing adequate access to emergency medical services. Since 1999, MEDIC EMS has met this challenge, staffing a full-time Paramedic and volunteer EMT in Eldridge, LeClaire, and Blue Grass. Core missions for these operations range from offering low-cost community CPR education to providing free child passenger safety seat inspections. Our ADM Staff members exist to commit their time and availability to provide patient care in emergency situations in the towns of Eldridge, LeClaire or Blue Grass. These ADM Staff members serve as on-call paramedics and EMTs, in addition to the paid Paramedic on duty. Requirements of this position include those of a Staff EMT or Paramedic as well as the ability to be available when on-call duty is activated, responding to the station appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications to serve as an ADM staff member include the possession of a valid Iowa motor vehicle chauffeur’s driver’s license, a BCLS and appropriate State of Iowa EMT-B/EMT-I, and an ACLS and appropriate State of Iowa Paramedic License.
