Iowa Donor Network Recognizing Local Heroes

Iowa Donor Network recognition of local heroes.

Today, the Iowa Donor Network recognized our local heroes. In the year of 2024, MEDIC EMS of Scott County transported 5 critically ill patients that were able to donate healthy organs.

MEDIC EMS has the highest number of transported patients in the state of Iowa that resulted in the donation of viable organs.

With the support of the Bettendorf Fire Department and the Davenport Fire Department, our clinicians provided the highest standard of care to ensure the patients were properly treated prior to arriving at the hospital.

Of those 5 patients, a total of 23 total organs were donated. 2 hearts, 2 lungs, 5 livers, 2 pancreases, and 9 kidneys — as well as 2 corneas and musculoskeletal tissue.

We would also like to honor the decision of the patients to be registered as organ donors, for without their selfless act we would not have been here today. We thank them and their families for allowing another family to experience the gift of life.
