On May 2, 2016 at 1548 hrs, Scott County Deputies were dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident at the intersection of 60th Ave and 295th St. Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Walcott Police Department, Dixon Volunteer Fire Department, Medic Ambulance, Bennet Ambulance, Wheatland Ambulance and Med-Force all responded to the scene.
A Ford F250 with an empty horse trailer was operated by Joseph Staner (79 YOA) and his wife Rosemary (77 YOA) of Cascade. He was stopped... for the stop sign on 295th St traveling eastbound. The second involved vehicle a Ford Escort was operated by Michael Lafrenz (26YOA) of Wheatland with the following passengers, Danika Schnede (18YOA), Katelyn Paul (17YOA), and Joshua Wenger (19YOA) all of Wheatland. Lafrenz was traveling south bound on 60th Ave from Dixon Iowa.
As Lafrenz was traveling south bound on 60th Ave, Staner left the stop sign and started traveling east. The two vehicles collided causing Lafrenz’s vehicle to make a 180 degree clockwise turn and go into the south east ditch of the intersection. The driver and two occupants of the Escort were able to get out of the vehicle while one was trapped and had to be extricated by mechanical means by Dixon Volunteer Fire Department. Two of the occupants were transported to Genesis East Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. A third occupant that was trapped was air lifted to the University of Iowa Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
No injuries were sustained to Staner and his wife.
After the on scene investigation Joseph Staner was cited for Fail to Yield.
