On Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at 9:00 am, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a promotion ceremony held for the promotion of Lt. Bryce Schmidt to Chief Deputy. The ceremonies will be held in the Sheriff’s Office Pavilion Conference Room.
Major Bryce Schmidt Biography - Bryce Schmidt was raised on a farm near Preston, Iowa and graduated from Preston High School. In 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and psychology from Saint Ambrose University. He completed his internship with the Maquoketa Police Department where he also served as a reserve police officer.
Bryce started his law enforcement career as a part-time police officer with the City of West Liberty. He attended and graduated the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1993. In 1994 he became a full-time police officer with the City of Marshalltown, where he served as a patrolman and then later a detective,
investigating domestic abuse and sexual assault cases. He was sworn into the Scott County Sheriff’s Office by Sheriff Mike Bladel in 1998. As a Deputy, Bryce served as an evidence technician, field training officer, tactical team member, crisis negotiator, DARE officer, and a school resource officer for the Pleasant Valley School District. He also served as the president and vice-president of the Scott County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.
Bryce was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 and assigned to supervise the Sheriff’s Office Investigation’s Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 and spent two years as the second shift patrol commander. He later served as the Administrative Lieutenant, Dispatch Center Supervisor, Tactical Team Commander, and Special Operations Unit Commander. He graduated from the Southern Police Institute Executive Leadership Program in Louisville, KY in 2010 and currently commands The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Investigations and Civil Divisions along with courthouse security, bailiffs, sex offender registry, ICAC program, and the reserve deputy program.
Bryce resides in Eldridge with his wife Jill of 22 years and their two children, Kaitlin and Alec. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.
