MEDIC and Bettendorf FD Resuscitate Four-Year-Old

Medic and Bettendorf Fire

On October 17th, 2024, MEDIC and the Bettendorf Fire Department responded to a four-year-old who was not breathing.

BFD arrived on the scene, and a bystander was giving CPR to Shaniyah. Lt. Kyle Priest took over the resuscitation with his firefighters, and then the ambulance with Bailey and Anthony arrived. BPE was also on the scene.

They were able to get a heartbeat back on Shaniyah and then transported her to a local hospital.

Shaniyah was then transported to the University of Iowa. She stayed in the ICU for 6 days and then was discharged a few days before her 5th birthday. Her mother is grateful to everyone involved in her daughter's care.

Shaniyah wanted to meet her heroes, a meet and greet occurred at the Bettendorf Fire Station 1 on 12/4/2024. She was able to meet all of the people that day.

We are proud of the fantastic teamwork that was done to save Shaniyah’s life.
