Salary: $12.50 to $14.50 per hour

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard provides a clean safe swimming environment along with proper swimming instruction for classes or various levels. Protects patrons and exercises lifesaving technique when necessary.

Job Responsibilities

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assists the Manager in opening and closing the facility for the season.

Provides safe swimming environment; provides life guarding, first aid and safety functions as necessary; may operate rescue motorboat as needed at West Lake Park; may conduct swim lessons at Scott County Park.

Performs custodial duties to include cleaning restrooms and bath houses daily; picks up litter around the grounds and parking lots, cleans sinks, shower stalls, toilets and floors.

Performs routine maintenance and grounds keeping duties associated with the swimming area as assigned.

Assists the manager in testing and maintaining required water quality standards.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Must be at least 16 years of age.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Swim rescue and first aid procedures.

Skill in:
Administering first aid and CPR.

Maintaining composure in stressful situations.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess Lifeguard, CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
May be required to perform swimming rescue and first aid procedures.
