Join Wapsi River Center Staff for an adventure with Kayaks. Whether you are a beginner or a regular paddler, come out to learn basics. Program includes all equipment use, covers safety, techniques, and taking a tour around Lake of the Hills. You may bring your own vessel/PFD, though it must comply with IADNR regulations

Greener Health & Home Products

Come join Wapsi River Center staff and learn to become more sustainable by creating your own health and home products made with natural ingredients. Also learn about upcycling and reducing your footprint on the planet! The program costs $8/ person for supplies. Please bring a glass mason jar  8 oz or larger to make cleaning vinegar.

Family Survivor Camp

Body: 

Join Wapsi Naturalists for a lesson on outdoor survival. Orienteering, fire starting, and shelter building are just some of the activities at this family-friendly camp. Please bring your own lunch and drinks (a roasting fire will be available - if you get it started...).

Monarch Festival

Body: 

Join the Wapsi River Center staff as we celebrate Monarch Butterflies. We will have kid’s activities such as butterfly crafts, a photo booth, and education stations. There will be a monarch presentation at 11:00 am., a prairie hike and butterfly catching and Monarch tagging and testing at 12:00 p.m.  This event is FREE and fun for the entire family, but registration is required.

Archery Controlled Deer Hunt at Scott County Park

Body: 

The Scott County Conservation Board has approved a special deer hunt for archery hunters only from October 1, 2023 through January 10, 2024 at Scott County Park. This hunt is only for residents of Iowa.  Applications are now available and need to be returned no later than Monday, July 31st, 2023 by 4:30pm. DIY Flower Coasters & Prairie Hike

Body: 

Join Friends of the Wapsi Center member Susan McPeters in making DIY flower coasters using native spring flowers & ceramic tiles. This activity is for all ages. While the coasters are drying, participants will go on a naturalist led prairie wildflower hike. Each kit includes 2 coasters. The cost is $5.00/kit, payable by cash or check at the program.
