EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMISSION

In summary, chapter 29C.9 of the Code of Iowa states that the Emergency Management Commission has the following powers:

1. To provide direction for the delivery of the emergency management services of planning, administration, coordination, training and support for local governments and their departments.
2. To delegate to the emergency management coordinator the authority to fulfill the commission duties as described in the division's administrative rules.
3. To develop, adopt and submit for approval a comprehensive countywide emergency operations plan.
4. To encourage local officials to support and participate in exercise programs which test proposed or established jurisdictional emergency plans and capabilities.
