FROZEN MEALS- A CLOSER LOOK
As consumers seek to limit trips to the grocery store –many are giving frozen meals a closer look.
Things to take into consideration: Difference in nutritional quality of ingredients.
New breed of frozen dinners include high-fiber whole grains, beans, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
A healthier frozen meal should have “mostly whole-food ingredients”
While frozen meals have traditionally been high in sodium, several have lower-sodium options or combinations of ingredients and spices add flavor.
If an average frozen entrée doesn’t seem to fill you up-bulk up a dish by adding cauliflower rice or sprinkle nuts & seeds on top, or add another fresh vegetable.
You could also add a side: wholegrain toast, red bell pepper w/ hummus, sweet potato,
tomato w/mozzarella, green salad, cut zucchini just a few ideas!
