Part of what complicates the problem of stopping robocalls, spoofed or otherwise, not all of the calls are against the law certain legitimate entities or situations are allowed to make autodialed calls.

There are more protections against robocalls made to your cell phone than to your landline.

Calls that are mostly legal

  • Political parties & candidates, and charities made to your landline
  • Autodialed telemarketing calls to landline
  • Payment reminder calls to your landline

Calls that are mostly illegal

  • Almost all autodialed or prerecorded calls made to your cell phone, unless you have given permission
  • Spoofed calls if the intent is to commit fraud

Check your phone carrier’s anti-robocall service and call-blocking apps.
