The following policies were approved August 22, 2019 by the Board of Supervisors:
General Policies 44 “Service Animals” is a new policy to address updates in the state law regarding animals in public buildings. The state law limits service animals and service animals in training to a dog or miniature horse. Employees cannot bring an animal to work, unless it has been addressed as a reasonable accommodation under the American with Disabilities Act. Employees should assume citizens with animals in the building qualify as service animals, as such the animal should not be fed, petted or disturbed. If you believe the animal does not qualify as a service animal you can report citizens to the bailiff and employees to HR. Bailiffs will receive additional guidance from their Sergeant regarding the policy.
Human Resources Policy R “Corrective and Disciplinary Actions” is modified to reflect changes in the state law to serve as a reminder of no reprisal against an employee who in good faith reports unethical, illegal or suspicious activity to a public official, the County’s Human Resources Director or the state ombudsman. The state ombudsman can be reached at 1-888-426-6283. The change in the state law also requires the County to provide new employees with the contact information of the state ombudsman when hired and notify existing employees through this policy.
If you have any questions let HR or your supervisor know. As always the full text of the policy can be viewed at: https://www.scottcountyiowa.com/hr/policies
