If you were at work on December 3rd, you might have felt a light breeze followed by some clapping. That light breeze was a collective exhale from the Health Department after staff learned that after several years of work, the department was officially accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). PHAB accreditation is a national, voluntary accreditation program designed to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing the quality and performance of public health departments off all shapes and kinds. There are less than two hundred and fifty accredited health department across the United States; SCHD is one of four in Iowa (three local and the state).
If you want to learn more about accreditation stop by the Health Department. We’d love to talk to you about our journey. Or, visit our accreditation message on our website: https://www.scottcountyiowa.com/health/post/health-department-achieves-national-accreditation. Thanks to all of the county employees outside of the Health Department who helped us find something we needed to submit, helped us create something new, or gave a word of encouragement!
