2022 Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 21-25, is an opportunity to highlight the importance of being aware of, and prepared for, severe weather.
The annual statewide tornado drill will take place on Wednesday, March 23, beginning at 10 a.m. Scott County is NOT scheduling a drill at this time, but we encourage all supervisors to take this time to discuss with staff where they would go on their floor or building in case of an actual tornado. Severe weather shelter sites are marked in county buildings. Supervisors should point out alternative sites in the building. If departments are unaware of the location on your floor or building, you can reach out to FSS for assistance.
Severe Weather Awareness Week is a great time to sign up for Alert Iowa notices to receive severe weather notifications. You can select how you want to receive notifications based on the type of event. Perhaps an email for thunderstorm watches and a text for tornado warnings, your choice. You may opt in for other types of notices from your residence community, such as changes to solid waste pick up or community events.
