Leadership Training Opportunity - Intent Based Leadership

We’re excited to feature Captain David Marquet's (ret.) leadership philosophy on May 9th from 9AM - 4PM at SECC led by Chris Battell and Donna Honald.

A few leadership book clubs ago we read Turn the Ship Around by Captain David Marquet and his message about what leadership should be resonated with the book club. As the Captain of a nuclear submarine, Captain Marquet created a progressive and profoundly effective system for leading others. He calls the system Intent Based Leadership. He honed this system on the Sante Fe and transformed a lagging, under-performing submarine and crew to one of the finest in the U.S. fleet.

During this workshop you will learn the Santa Fe’s story as well as learning the leadership practices developed by Marquet through group discussions and activities. Some key ideas we will be covering:

  • Create leaders, not followers

  • Achieve excellence, not simply avoiding errors

  • Push authority to information

  • Language of intent based leadership

  • Ladder of leadership

  • Deliberate action

  • Coaching for competence and clarity

  • Emancipate, not empower
