A WageWorks® Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pre-tax benefit account used to pay for eligible medical, dental, and vision care expenses that aren’t covered by your insurance plan such as copays for office visits and prescriptions, vision expenses after insurance including Lasik, and dental care or orthodontia (both preventative and restorative) after insurance. Some over-the-counter expenses that qualify (unless reimbursed by insurance) include: diabetic supplies, contact lens solution, denture adhesive, personal test kits, blood pressure meter, adhesive or elastic bandages, and thermometers. It’s a smart, simple way to save money while keeping you and your family healthy and protected.
Participants receive a Take Care debit card which eliminates the need to submit most claims for reimbursement. Money is taken directly from your FSA. (Save all receipts in case they are requested and for tax purposes.) Your card comes “loaded” with the full amount of your yearly election on January 1, even though the yearly election is divided among 26 pay periods.
You may elect up to $2600 in 2017 for medical expenses. This is an increased maximum election amount from 2016. Your elections cannot be changed during the year unless you have a life event such as birth/adoption, marriage, divorce, or death of a family member.
If you don’t spend it all, up to $500 can be rolled forward into the next year. Once you have an account, you can manage it online at www.myflexonline.com.
