Update: Construction is complete and the intersection is open.

Starting Monday, April 9, 2018 the pedestrian crossing at 5th & Western will be CLOSED due to construction.

The closure is anticipated to last approximately 4 weeks.  Signage will be provided to clearly indicate the path for the crosswalk detour.

See the attached detour map.  From the west side of the 5th Street parking lot, go north and cross Western Avenue at the alley.  Come back down the other side of Western Avenue to the intersection. Proceed west on the north side of 5th Street and cross on Gaines Street south to the county complex.

Also, please be aware that you SHOULD NOT cross construction areas and cross the tracks at any place other than the DESIGNATED crossing at Gaines Street to the west or Ripley Street viaduct to the east. 

We appreciate everyone's patience while the city works to get the intersection replaced. This temporary detour will reduce delay to the project.
