Updated Press Release January 4, 2020 9:27 AM CST

At 0800 Saturday morning, LeClaire Fire and Police as well as City officials met with Canadian Pacific Command staff and support members to reassess the ongoing cleanup efforts following the train derailment in downtown LeClaire. Canadian Pacific (CP) staff indicated that constant air and water monitoring was being performed and all information was being relayed to both the Iowa DNR and EPA with no significant findings found at this point.

Rail traffic has been resumed as of 0400 Saturday morning and all derailed cars have been moved away from the main track. CP staff indicated that throughout the day, remaining rail cars would be loaded onto tractor trailers and removed from the site with cleaning being performed as the process continues.

It is important to note that traffic congestion in the downtown area will continue throughout this process so please be aware as you travel through the downtown area and allow a few minutes extra to your commute due to the heavier traffic.

We at Leclaire Fire would like to sincerely thank everyone for their cooperation during this process. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and provide any important updates as they become available.
